South Texas College of Law Houston (STCL Houston)’s annual fundraiser, The Gala, drew more than 400 guests to The Revaire Saturday, Oct. 2, raising more than $275,000 for student scholarships.
Chris Hanslik ’95 and Jill Willard Young ’96 co-chaired the successful event that featured the presentation of the prestigious Dean’s Medal to The Honorable E.J. Salcines Jr. ’63 from Tampa, Fla., a silent auction and a “paddles up” live auction, and touching accounts from two grateful scholarship recipients.
The packed house enjoyed a delicious meal prepared by A Fare Extraordinaire that featured beef tenderloin and herb-encrusted halibut as well as mouthwatering desserts: milk chocolate cremeux and a pineapple upside down bar. After dinner, guests snacked on late-night fries and boozy milkshakes while dancing the night away to the Spazmatics.
The Gala was the culmination of the law school’s Reunion Week, which celebrated faculty, alumni and the school’s nationally ranked advocacy program, with a total of nine events over the course of the seven days.
“The spirit of community flowed throughout this Gala, and throughout all our Reunion Week events,” said STCL Houston President and Dean Michael Barry. “We are so grateful to the many guests who attended from Greater Houston, and also from across the country.”
Guests in attendance included Nikki and Benny Agosto, Jr., Karen and Roland Garcia, The Honorable Eva and Tony Guzman, Rachel and Clay Steely, Bridget and Gabe Vick, and Mary-Olga Lovett and John Warren.
