STCL Houston Ranks Fourth in ABA’s Competition Championship

South Texas College of Law Houston placed No. 4 in the nation on the American Bar Association’s (ABA) 2021-22 Competition Champions list, rising two places in the rankings since last year’s inaugural appearance.

Published annually by the ABA’s Law Student Division, the list recognizes law schools that go the extra mile to help prepare their students for practice. The list is compiled using law schools’ performance in four national practice skills competitions – Arbitration, Negotiation, Client Counseling, and the National Appellate Advocacy Competition. This year, more than 1,300 students from 281 law schools virtually participated in one or more of the competitions sponsored by the Law Student Division.

The Texas Gulf Coast Area Labor Federation presented South Texas College of Law Houston, along with the other partners in the Keep Harris County Housed coalition, a Fighting for Our Neighbors award during the April 23 Working Family Awards Celebration.

Eric Kwartler, public interest attorney with STCL Houston’s Randall O. Sorrels Legal Clinics represented the law school at the dinner. In 2018, Kwartler created STCL Houston’s Landlord/Tenant practice.

STCL Houston Students Win Two National Advocacy Championships, Increase School’s Total to 138

South Texas College of Law Houston (STCL Houston) students won two national advocacy championships last weekend, increasing the total national victories to 138 –twice as many as any other law school in the country.

With these wins, STCL Houston extends its long-time dominance in legal advocacy. Recently, STCL Houston’s advocacy program –known for its practice-ready, experiential learning opportunities – was ranked No. 3 in the nation in the 2023 U.S. News & World Report’s Best Graduate Schools guide.

STCL Houston Ranks No. 6 in the Nation on ABA Law Student Division’s 2021 “Competition Champions” List

The American Bar Association (ABA) Law Student Division recently ranked South Texas College of Law Houston (STCL Houston) as No. 6 in the nation on its 2021 Competition Champions list.

The ABA created this annual ranking to recognize law schools that “go above and beyond to help prepare their students for practice.” The ABA compiles this elite list based on law schools’ performance in its four national practice skills competitions, including Arbitration, Negotiation, Client Counseling, and the National Appellate Advocacy Competition. STCL Houston Extends Reign of Advocacy Excellence, Earning Its Unrivaled 135th National Advocacy Championship

South Texas College of Law Houston students Juanita Deaver and Reid Carrillo recently took first place at the 13th Annual National Latino(a) Law Student Association Moot Court Competition, earning the school’s unrivaled 135th national advocacy championship.

Deaver and Carrillo also won the Best Respondent Brief at the virtual competition.
